Australian Grand Prix Centenary

15–18 January 2027

Join the VSCCA @ Celebration Dinner

The VSCCA has reserved tables for the Centenary Celebration Dinner on Saturday evening and warmly invites members and their guests to join us for this memorable occasion. It promises to be one of the highlights of a very special weekend. Please let Rees know if you plan to join us.

Celebrate 100 Years of the Australian Grand Prix

On 15 January 1927, the first Australian Grand Prix for All Powers Racing Cars was held at the Goulburn Showground. A distinguished field of Bugattis, Ford Specials and the Overland Special competed for honours, with Geoff Meredith claiming victory in his Bugatti Type 30, ahead of Jack O'Rourke in a Bugatti Type 39.

One hundred years later, Goulburn will celebrate this milestone in Australian motorsport history with four days of commemorative events, exhibitions and demonstrations.

The Celebrate Goulburn Group has assembled an outstanding program that honours the pioneering spirit of the original Grand Prix while welcoming enthusiasts from across Australia.

Highlights

Friday, 15 January

The celebrations begin in Montague Street, Goulburn, with displays of veteran and vintage cars, historic racing cars and motorcycles representing those that competed in the 1927 Australian Grand Prix, alongside significant vehicles from later Grand Prix and motorsport history.

Mid-afternoon, participating vehicles will parade to the Goulburn Showground, the site of the inaugural Grand Prix.

The official opening will feature special guests from the motoring world, demonstration laps by invited Grand Prix cars and motorcycles on the original 1927 circuit, and extensive static displays of period vehicles.

Saturday, 16 January

Activities continue at the Showground Recreation Area with static displays, demonstration laps, trade and food stalls, live entertainment, carnival rides and a 1927-themed dress competition judged throughout the day.

On Saturday evening, the Centenary Celebration Dinner will bring together participants and enthusiasts for a memorable night. The evening will include the draw for the major raffle prize - a brand-new Hyundai i20 N performance car - together with auctions, competitions and entertainment.

Sunday, 17 January

Assemble at the Showground before travelling to Windellama for the unveiling of a memorial honouring Geoff Meredith, winner of the inaugural 1927 Australian Grand Prix and former local property owner.

Food will be available on site, or you may wish to bring a picnic lunch.

Monday, 18 January – Save the Date

The Golden Era Auto Racing (GEAR) Club will host a special historic and classic vehicle track day at ONE Raceway, Braidwood Road, Goulburn.
